AGS has published details of upcoming free server transfers on official forums. The exact release of the server transfer feature has yet to be announced, but we can "expect it this week".
We have answers from the development team to many of the questions we pulled out of this thread! You will find them below:
Q: How many times will we be able to upload for free? Will we be able to pay for server transfers after using free tokens?
A: The first version includes one transfer token which is disposable. We will continue to monitor server populations, and if transfers result in an uneven distribution that causes queues, we will issue new token sets as needed.
Q: When will the "full" transfer servers be opened? Will there be any monitoring of these servers to see if they should be opened / closed based on the flow of transfers?
* A: We monitor full status every day and changes only appear today. "Full" does not mean a server that always has queues, it means a server that has a large queue during typical peak usage. Once the transfers start, we will be easing full status on many worlds to ensure as much flexibility as possible. As transfers slow down, we'll re-evaluate which worlds may still need to be tagged.
Q: Is there potential for regional transfers in the future?
A: There is potential, yes and we are working on it now. We can't give an ETA because it's a completely different process, but when we realized we had created a stir in it, we felt we owed it to the community to find a solution.
Q: Will all members of a large company be able to relocate? Do we have a limit on how many people can move to a specific server?
A: There is no technical limit to the number of characters that can be transferred to the server. We also addressed an issue that was making it difficult to move a business: starting with the release of server transfers, when the last person leaves the company, they will be considered abandoned and the name will be available a few seconds later. Note: Do NOT change the company name if you intend to transfer it. This will make the old name unavailable on the new server. Emptying the company completely so that it is abandoned will release the name for reuse.
However, large companies should consider the consequences of moving as a group to a busy server; this may cause the server to become Full after it has been moved. We will warn you all day in advance of any full status changes during the first week of available server transfers, so as not to surprise anyone with a status change.
Q: Are there any plans to add new worlds to region x / world set / recommended language?
A: As New World continues to attract new players, we will be assessing server populations and opening new servers as needed, including making sure there is always an incomplete option available for supported languages. We will also connect servers as needed to ensure the best gameplay experience - even at the same time (new servers and connected servers), subject to terms and conditions.
Q: Is there a time limit / time frame for which players must use this token?
A: No, it is permanently available in your account until you use it.
Q: Will we be increasing the server capacity in addition to server transfers?
A: We are always interested in delivering the highest capacity that provides the best gaming environment. We'll increase it here, as long as we're sure it doesn't worsen the gameplay - as many perceptive players have pointed out, we're already experimenting with this on some servers. In addition, the world of Aeturnum will expand over time, which would allow for a better balance for even more players.
Q: Are the tokens 1 per account or 1 per character?
A: Tokens are one per account. If we find that transfers have caused an imbalance on individual servers, we may re-issue tokens for affected individuals.
Q: Will we be able to move in the same world set?
A: Yes, you can transfer your character to another world in the same world set.
Q: For players unable to transfer their character to their correct region, will some type of XP boost or compensation be available?
A: We heard the feedback from those affected and started working on interregional transfers on that basis. Unfortunately, this won't be in the first issue of transfers, but will come as soon as we can complete it.
Q: Will we be able to deliver the infographic ahead of time to help companies and players with their server transfer plans?
A: Yes, we are publishing an infographic with the most up-to-date, relevant information along with the transfer function to help our players decide which world they want to move to. We will update it daily for as long as necessary afterwards.
Q: Why did we create global names for characters and companies if we can't move from region to region?
A: As mentioned, we are currently working on porting between regions, so having global names will prevent some confusion that would otherwise occur. Companies will also be able to transfer (after the last person leaves the company on the origin server, the name becomes available - this is provided with the character transfer).
After the transfers are used by the most interested (especially between regions), we will consider whether to change the naming restrictions for individual regions.
Q: Will there be a way to determine the faction demographics on the server before the transfer?
A: Currently there is no way to achieve this outside of the game. The transfers themselves, as well as players opting to switch factions, can significantly change demographics, so any advance sample can be confusing.
Q: How will city blueprints work if they are not on the same city board?
A: Transferred characters can still return City Project missions that are in progress.
Q: Can you open a window where you can move transfer longer to unlock locked servers to give people a chance to get in?
A: Tokens are permanent until used (one use per token).
Q: Will you stay in your faction or will you have the chance to move to another faction? What if I changed factions once before transferring?
A: Your faction status will be the same after the transfer.
Q: If we have a region on our current server, will this affect our ability to delete a guild if deletion is required?
A: No, you can still remove all members from the company that owns the territory.
Q: Can we get the answer on the go with high pop servers and transfers, especially in cases where people are in a character on a high pop server they want to join but focus on a server with lower pop during the game. Can we easily delete an existing character and move to this server as the population will remain the same?
A: You will still need to check the potential Full status on the server - if it is Full, you won't be able to transfer to it, even if you delete your character already on the server. Full is not set based on the number of characters, it is set based on the peak experience in the queue. After releasing transfers, we will relax many servers with Full status, and for a few weeks after releasing transfers, we will display a warning throughout the day on each server that will change the status to Full to prevent unexpected moments of server switching to full (if necessary).
