Recently, Amazon Games Studios posted a notification on family sharing in the forums. They concluded as follows:

Due to the increase in bots, gold sellers, and ban evaders, we decided to turn off family sharing today (November 4, 2021) at 12:00 PM (in your local time zone). This decision was not taken lightly and for players who enjoy family sharing for a good reason, we will update this post with help instructions."

Along with the family sharing notification, there was a very long and very informative post in the developer blogs section of the forums. You can read the full post here, but some of the really big takeaways included the AGS dealing with economic issues, economic feats and gold farming, war lag, how luck works, gem benefits and problems, and the watermark system.

Economic problems of deflation
Amazon Game Studios admitted that the economy is more tense in the late game, which is now in the early and mid-game. This could cause more serious problems in the future as more people are pushing for endgame so a few things were done to fix this issue. There have already been two major changes to re-enable Outpost Attack, which allows players to earn a decent amount of Coins in this game mode, and a fix for an Azoth staff bug that now allows players to complete damaged high-tier breaches that reward a good amount of gold per hour. They also stated that with the monthly update for November, more changes will come, which include:

  • Stamina lost upon death in PvP reduced by 10%.
  • Extended housing settlement periods from 5 days to 7 days, without increasing the tax amount
  • Coin cost per Attributes reduced by 60%.
  • The amount of honey obtained from apiaries was reduced by 50% and the amount of milk from cows by 65%. Honey trees are not affected by this change. We made this change because the amount of milk and honey in the world is higher than our initial estimate. Bees and cows are happy about this change.

Another HUGE economy news announced on the Developers Blog is that ALL TRADE POINTS WILL BE CONNECTED after the November update. The reason was to strengthen the economies of less traveled territories and to ensure the availability of items in all territories. The following events will take place with the connection of trade points:

  • The fees for buy and sell orders are specified in the Settlement from which you post them.
  • Transaction taxes on purchases you make are set out in the Settlement in which you purchase.
  • Expiring Sales Order Items are returned to the Settlement from which they were dispatched.
  • You can no longer place items at the Trading Post for 28 days. The maximum is now 14 days.

Economic feats and gold farming
Recently, there has been a very big problem in the New World regarding duplicate coins and items. In the dev blog, this issue was resolved and it was explained that anyone who used counterfeit coins and items was permanently banned.

In order to fix the problem with items and coin counterfeiting, another issue arose which allowed players to duplicate their coins with territory upgrades. This issue has also been fixed in the latest hotfix. All the counterfeit coins were removed from the companies that used (or accidentally caused) the problem. AGS has been able to track how much coins have been received as a result of exploitative behavior and is actively investigating and taking action against companies for their deliberate use.

The very annoying chat spam from gold farmers was also resolved by the following actions:

  • Many reported accounts were banned and suspended, as well as bot accounts that contained gold. Thanks for reports of players being spammed in chat.
  • Restrictions have been added to prevent player-to-player exchange and currency transfer from characters below level 10 or whose account is less than 72 hours old. Logging in after 72 hours of your account lifetime will allow you to trade and transfer currency after reaching level 10.
  • Changed the coin value from some early quests to the later main story questline, keeping the same amount of earned coins, only delivered in quests a little later.
  • The use of the Trading Post will be restricted until new characters accept the "Introducing the Trading Post" quest in their first settlement.

War lag
War delay has been an issue since New World was released, and it was a major topic that was also discussed. AGS has admitted that players are using exploits by spamming the Ice Gauntlet, Firestick, and Rescue Staff to create lag issues while scoring points. They claim to have made some initial changes that were achievable in the short term, and are working on further updates to address the issues with war delays.

How happiness works
There has been a lot of confusion about the luck mechanics in New World. According to this development blog, general type of luck (not collecting luck) influences your shift to randomize higher or rarer items from enemies and containers such as supplies. In the case of furniture schematics and found furniture, high-end items are among the rarest. Boosting your Luck will certainly make it happen, but as with all happiness - there is no guarantee that you will get it.

Perk and gem issues
Currently, perks and gems in the New World have a lot of problems with their performance. The AGS said their goal is to fix all perk and gem issues in a monthly update coming later in November.

Watermark system
Some clarity has also been added regarding the operation of the New World watermark system. When you hit your level cap, you gain an upper run point cap that gradually increases as more dips occur for you. It depends on the type of item. Only the dropped item affects the watermark result. The moment an item drops your watermark, it is customized. You don't need to pick up the item. Creating or buying items does not increase your watermark score.

There were many other fixes and topics covered on the Developer Blog, including chat images, faction tokens, property taxes, and more. You can read the full article here.
