There are 3 factions in New World that players can choose from. Marauders, Alliance and Syndicate.
Marauders are a ruthless military force whose goal is to establish a free nation in which anyone with the strength to do so can prosper and earn money.
The Covenant is a fervent group of individuals committed to cleansing the earth of heretics and filthy so that its sacred nature may flourish and restore justice.
The Syndicate is a secret organization of immeasurable cunning and intelligence, seeking out forbidden knowledge that will usher in a new era of enlightenment.
How to join a faction in the New World
As you wash on the shores of Aeternum, you'll be guided through a series of beginner quests on the beach. You will have to complete these tasks. If you don't complete these quests, you won't be able to access quests in the city. So don't skip them.
After completing the first few tasks, you will be directed to the nearest city. You'll have to progress through the questline, and eventually you'll be directed to meet the leaders of each faction. After meeting each of them, you will have to choose which faction you want to join.
Remember that when you select a faction, you will be associated with it and will only be able to change once every 120 days.
Company and selected faction
It's also important to mention that the governor or leader of your company will determine what faction your company is fighting for. So, regardless of the faction the governor chooses, you'll want to make sure you pick the same faction so that you can be in the company of your choice.
Open-world PvP faction
Anyone from any faction can apply for PvP in the open world. Remember that if you are NOT part of a faction, you CANNOT flag open world PvP.
The ultimate goal of each person from any faction should be to allow them to control as much of the Aeternum as possible, because when you do this you will gain buffs that cover more damage against some Aeternum creatures, you will be able to find more resources when collecting, you will be able to craft higher items level and have a little more luck looting. Basically, the more territories your faction controls, the more powerful you will become as a player.
So how does the faction control the territory? Well, because of the war. But before you can actually declare war on another faction, you must first weaken that faction's control on its territory, and if you are a faction trying to maintain control, you must as a member of that faction help actively strengthen that faction's influence.
This is done by completing PvP missions in that specific territory.
After accepting a PvP mission, you'll be tasked with delivering messages or items to another territory, retrieving tactical information, or patrolling a specific area. It is very important to remember that when you accept a PvP mission, you will automatically be flagged as PvP. If you capture the flag you will automatically lose this mission and if you want to continue PvP missions you will have to start with this mission. If you die at any point in the mission, the mission will also fail and you will have to restart the mission from the beginning.
Upon successfully completing a PvP mission, you will be rewarded with the faction currency used to purchase equipment for the faction, and more importantly, as mentioned earlier, you will generate income for your faction in that territory. This will reduce the control of the faction that owns the territory, making it more vulnerable to declaring war.
Remember that you can also complete PvE missions for your faction, which include things like crafting, defeating mobs, and gathering resources. When you complete a PvE mission, you will be rewarded with a faction currency that can be used to purchase faction equipment.
When a territory is weakened to such an extent that it becomes vulnerable to declaring war, any company in the undermining faction may then declare war on that territory. When this happens, one of the companies that declared war will be chosen as the Vanguard.
- The most active Companies in the Influence Race will have a better chance of being selected as the Vanguard.
- All faction companies cannot declare war when the territory is thrown into conflict.
- To be eligible, the Company must contribute at least 10% of the total influence required to cause a conflict in the territory.
- In the unlikely event that no company contributes more than 10%, each company will be entitled to declare war.
- The declaration of war button now indicates if the company can declare war.
- If more than one company declares war in the same territory during a conflict, the amount of influence the company has contributed to the conflict increases its chance of being selected as the Vanguard.
So what is the Vanguard? Well, it is the responsibility of the leaders of the chosen company to be the Vanguard to build their forces with players who volunteer to fight, and the Vanguard will be the company to control the territory if the war is won.
This system gives smaller businesses the ability to control territories. So, even if you have a company of ten, you will still have the chance to own your own territory. If your 10 man company declares war and is selected as the vanguard, you will attract 40 other players who volunteered to fight to help you assemble your 50 man squad for a siege battle.
So yes, even if you are a sole proprietorship, you will still be able to own your own territory.
It's worth noting that you can't declare a Company War of the same faction as you, but you have the option of simply not helping them if they need more siege troops or need help in a different way.
It's also very important to mention that even if you don't want to participate in PvP in the New World, you can still be a valuable contribution to your faction by making sure your faction is well-stocked and supported.
Do I have to join a faction?
No, you are not compelled to join a faction in New World, but remember that if you do not, you will not be able to participate in many aspects of the game. You will not be able to mark a flag for open-world PvP or join a Tank Company. You won't be able to help undermine or control the territory.
If you have difficulty deciding which faction you want to join, you can always take the faction quiz to help you determine which faction to fight for.
