Introduction to Arcana in the New World

The arcana profession in New World allows players to create magic weapons, potions and tinctures. Magic weapons can be crafted from level 1 to level 5, and with the Arcana profession you can craft a variety of weapons rarities, from common to legendary.

Various types of potions can be made using the arcana, including health potions, mana potions, regeneration potions, focus potions, and load potions. Along with potions, you can also create weapon shells, tinctures, wards and perform Elemental Infusion, which turns the collected pollen into stronger versions that are used in the creation of higher-level arcana.

To start your arcane adventure, simply gather some resources, go to an arcane station or campfire, and press the default 'E' key to start crafting. The Campfire Arcana is limited to Health Potions, Mana Potions, Plague Tinctures, and Corruption Tinctures.

When planning where to go to crafting, you should also keep in mind the arcana station level. You'll be limited to crafting items up to the level of the tier station you're using, so to craft tier V potions or weapons you'll need to find a tier V arcana station.

After collecting the necessary resources and finding a suitable place to crafting, simply find the item in the list you want to craft and select the blue CRAFT button or use the slider to create multiple of the same items if you wish.

Every time you craft an item at an Arcana Station, you will be rewarded with Arcana Crafting Experience. The item you craft will determine the amount of Crafting Experience you get. As you gain experience in the arcana profession, you will also gain arcana levels. As you level up in the arcana, you'll unlock higher-level items you can craft.

TIP: First, make sure you pay attention to the drop-down menu when crafting certain items. You will be able to choose different materials depending on the item you are creating. Some items require specific ingredients and will not have drop-down menus available. When drop-down options are available, make sure you aren't using higher-level resources if you're just trying to level up your arcana skills.

Choosing less frequent materials does not grant you extra Crafting XP. If you use higher-level materials when crafting a weapon, you will increase the equipment value and you will be able to craft an item with a higher equipment value. Using rarer materials in consumables does not improve your equipment. If you use higher-level ingredients, you will have a chance to craft additional items, but the quality of the item will not change.

It is worth noting here that you can put your resources (jobs for all craftsmen, not just arcana) in the warehouse in the settlement and still have access to these ingredients at the arcana station. You must be in the same village where you store the items, but you don't need to have them in your inventory.

A quick note on the user interface. You may notice that the message "No buffs can be added to this item" appears when crafting consumables. This area is reserved for crafting items with attributes and perks. For example, if you use Arcana stations to craft weapons, you will be able to apply special resources that will give your crafted item a certain perk, and you can craft with Mercury, which will increase the chances of your item having attributes and Nests gems. Since the consumables you craft with arcana have no attributes or perks, you don't have these options when crafting these items.

Potions and their effects

Health Potions - Use to instantly restore some health. The higher the level, the more health you gain after using it. Using a Health Potion triggers a 30-second cooldown before you can consume another Health Potion.

Mana Potions - Use to instantly restore some of your mana. The higher the level, the more mana you gain from using it. Using a Mana Potion triggers a 15 second cooldown before consuming another Mana Potion.

Recovery Potions - Use to restore both health and mana. When used, you restore X% health every 1 second and X% mana every 1 second for 10 seconds. The amount restored in 10 seconds depends on the level of the potion used. Using this potion activates a 30-second cooldown before you can use another regeneration potion. You can use a health or mana potion after consuming a regeneration potion.

Focus Potions - Use to restore% mana every 1 second for 60 seconds. The amount of regeneration depends on the potion's level.

Tier II - Restores 0.25%

Tier III - Restores 0.50%

Tier IV - Recovers 0.75%

Tier V - Recovers 1.00%

Strain Potions - Use to increase the Strain Limit by a certain amount for a short time. Level 3 increases the limit by 50 for 120 seconds, level 4 by 75 for 150 seconds, and level 5 by 100 for 180 seconds. You cannot stack these potions.

Weapon shells

You can also use the arcana profession to create shells for weapons. For every enemy type in the game, there is a shell that covers beasts, lost, broken, ancient and furious lands.

You can coat weapons from tiers II to V. You can then apply crafted shells to the currently drawn weapon, which gives you a% damage bonus against the enemy you shelled. The coating will either last for a limited amount of time or it will be removed after equipping the weapon, whichever comes first. You can only apply one coating to one weapon at a time, and the coatings can combine with weapon perks.

Tier II - 9% damage bonus, lasts 5 minutes

Level III - 11% damage amplification, lasts 10 minutes

Tier IV - 13% damage buff, lasts 15 minutes

Level V - 15% damage amplification, lasts 20 minutes

Tinctures

Tinctures remove certain ailments and provide resistance to them for a specified period of time. There are two different types of tinctures, Plague Tinctures and Corruption Tinctures.

Ingesting the blight tincture will completely remove the blight and you will be immune to blight for 5 minutes.

Tier II - Increases plague absorption by 25%

Level III - Increases plague absorption by 89%

Level IV - Increases plague absorption by 95%

Tier V - Receive resistance to blight

Consuming the corruption tincture will completely remove corruption and you will be immune to corruption for 5 minutes.

Level II - Increases corruption absorption by 25%

Level III - Increases corruption absorption by 89%

Level IV - Increases corruption absorption by 95%

Tier V - Gain resistance to corruption

Tinctures can be made both at the camp and at the Arcana Station of the appropriate levels.

The tinctures cannot be stacked. If you consume the Blight Potion and then drink the Corruption Potion immediately, you will still remove the Blight Ailment, but the Blight resistance will be overridden by the Corruption Resistance.

Totem Potions

Ward potions are potions that, when consumed, provide increased damage absorption against one of 5 types of enemies: Ancient, Angry Earth, Beast, Corrupted, and Lost. They are only available from tier III to tier V. You will receive increased damage absorption for a certain amount of time after taking damage from that enemy type a certain number of times.

Level III - Increases damage absorption by 5% for 20 seconds after taking damage 5 times.

Level IV - Increases damage absorption by 10% for 20 seconds after taking damage 10 times.

Level V - Increases damage absorption by 15% for 20 seconds after taking damage 15 times.

They can be very useful when leading expeditions or farming a specific type of enemy in the open world.

These potions have a cooldown of 120 seconds.

Absorption Potions

Absorption Potions are potions that, when consumed, provide increased damage absorption against one of the 5 elemental types: Arcane, Fire, Lightning, Nature and Void. They are only available from tier III to tier V. You will receive an increase in your absorption by a certain percentage for a certain period of time. These potions cannot stack. Only one can be active at a time. These potions have a cooldown of 120 seconds.

Level III - Absorption increases by 9% for 30 seconds

Level IV - Absorption increases by 12% for 30 seconds

Level V - Absorption increases by 15% for 30 seconds

Elemental Infusion

Elemental infusion is the process of combining particles into strands, strands into essences and essences into Quintessence.

Motes can be collected in the open world (all Motes locations can be found using our interactive map) and are used in many arcana recipes. There are 7 types of pollen: Air, Soul, Life, Fire, Death, Earth, and Water When crafting higher-level items, you may need to use a strand, essence, or quintessence compared to the pollen collected in your recipe. To do this, you need to be at the arcana station to combine the motes into a higher-level ingredient.

Here's what you need to create each level of Elemental Infusion:

Elemental Fireplaces (Tier III) - 5 skeins

Elemental Essences (Tier IV) - 4 strands

Quintessence of the Elements (Tier V) - 3 Essences

How and where to find Arcana resources

The raw materials needed for the arcana are obtained in many different ways. If you want to produce consumables, the necessary ingredients can only be obtained by collecting, but mining can also prove beneficial for collecting particles. If you want to craft a weapon, you will have to level your mining, skinning, felling and harvesting to get the necessary materials.

Getting most of the ingredients needed to craft a magic weapon is easy. You will mine the appropriate ore, collect the appropriate wood or animal skin for the skin, and collect the appropriate particle (more on the particles below). Then you will have to refine the ore, wood and leather accordingly.

Some weapons require certain materials to be acquired. For example, the Whisper From the Frozen Vale requires Whisperwood, a rare Tier III ingredient. Whisperwood is obtained by felling trees. This is a rare drop that will depend on the level of the tree you cut and your luck roll bonus. The same pattern applies to most of the rare ingredients needed to craft weapons, including mining and skinning. You just cut a tree, extract a knot or skin an animal, and you have the chance to get rarer materials.

However, there are cases where you will need to get an item like Jade Collar. Jade Collars are needed to craft the Dynasty Shipyard Replica magic weapon. Jade collars can be obtained from some mobs and can be found in elite chests. You can check our database for specific drop locations for such item.

The materials needed to make consumables are water, oil, and reagents.

Water can be obtained from any settlement by the well, or you can go to a freshwater source such as a river or pond and press the default 'E' key and collect as much water as you can hold.

Oil is collected from leaking stones. You must have at least 20 mining skills to collect the Leak Stone and obtain the Oil. You can locate all stone leaks by checking our interactive map, filtering by ore and selecting the leaking stone.

The reagents needed are divided into 7 different categories:

  • Air
  • death
  • Earth
  • Fire
  • life
  • Spirit
  • Water

To get a specific reagent, you will need to collect essences that you can find in Aeternum. Essences can be collected in 2 different ways: collecting and extracting. Remember that you will need 30 harvest to harvest most essences and 50 mining to harvest essences derived from stones.

You can locate all the essences using our interactive map. Collecting these essences is also a way to get the crumbs. Crumbs are used in almost every arcana recipe, so make sure you collect these essences as you travel through Aeternum.

An example of needed essences would be the crafting Potion of Focus III level. This potion will require 1 level 3 water reagent, any level spirit reagent, and water.

To get the necessary ingredients you need to collect the Water Essence and get Cress Leaf or Water Skeins. The aqueous particles would have to be converted into a Level 2 water stream by elemental infusion as discussed earlier in the guide. You can also collect Freezing Lodestone, which would be obtained by mining springstone. Each of them would be considered a level 3 water reagent and could be used in this recipe.

You will also need to get any level of spirit reagent. (Note: If you choose to use a high level reagent here it will increase the chance of crafting additional items. It is recommended that higher level reagents be kept for higher level potions) To get the spirit reagent simply harvest the spirit essence to get the necessary ingredient.

You then only need water and you will be able to create a Concentration Potion.

Arcana crafting materials can also be obtained by looting alchemy chests and supplies.

How to level up Arcana

The information on developing your arcana here assumes that you will gather all your resources yourself and that you are solely focused on developing your arcana to its maximum level. However, you do have the option to purchase resources from the trading post to accelerate your arcane level progression in the New World.

To successfully level the arcana, you'll want to stick to your health and mana potions. Weapons and other consumables will give you more experience for each item you craft, but the amount of time you spend gaining resources far outweighs the amount of health and mana potions. Also, keep in mind that both of these potions will be in great demand, so you'll always be able to sell them to earn an extra coin as you develop your arcana.

The reason for creating both health and mana rather than focusing on one or the other is the speed with which you can gather the materials you need. You will be able to have a wider variety of materials that will be useful to help you level up, and the necessary spiritual reagents are superimposed on both potions at later levels.

The materials needed to craft weapons can also help raise the level of other crafting professions. However, if you are not interested in advancing these professions or just want to help you achieve maximum arcana, you are free to use craft weapons to help you level up.

As we will be using health and mana potions to level up, the leveling process will be broken down into 5 different categories:

Level 0-1 Weak Health / Mana Potion (6 CP per potion)

Level 1-50 Common Potion of Health / Mana (24 XP per potion)

Level 50-100 Strong Potion of Health / Mana (90 XP for Potion)

Level 100-150 Powerful Potion of Health / Mana (300 XP per potion)

Level 150-200 Infused Health / Mana Potion (620 XP for the potion)

A few things to keep in mind before starting your journey downhill to level your arcana are taxes in the settlement where you intend to perform most of your arcana, and the level of the arcana storage in a particular settlement. If you are in a settlement with a high crafting tax, you may want to move to a different city before leveling up to save some hard earned coin. Also, if your settlement does not have the necessary secret level repository for your crafting needs, you will have to move to another settlement before leveling up.

You can completely avoid the tax if you manage to level up your camp as you progress. You can create all the potions you need from your camp and you won't need a secret storehouse. However, to get a Tier V camp, you need to be level 55.

With that in mind, you'll save a headache, especially if you're going to be gathering ingredients near the settlement where you're going to level your arcana. This will prevent you from transferring ingredients to another city, ship, although sometimes in later levels it may be unavoidable.

Also remember about the materials that will be needed for each level of health / mana potions (healing reagents are health potions, magic reagents are mana potions. Earth is health and air is mana):

Level 1 Potions

  • Level 1 Healing / Magic Reagents
  • Water

Level 2 potions

  • Level 2 healing / magic reagents
  • Water

Tier 3 Potions:

  • Level 3 Healing / Magic Reagents
  • Earth Reagent / Air Reagent
  • Water

Tier 4 Potions:

  • Level 4 Healing / Magic Reagent
  • Earth Reagent / Air Reagent
  • Spirit Reagent
  • Water

Level 5 Potions:

  • Level 5 Healing / Magic Reagent
  • Soil / air reagent
  • Spirit Reagent
  • Water

As can be seen above, the production of these potions follows a clear pattern. It is important to keep this information in mind when collecting in order to be able to prepare with the right materials in the later stages of creation. Earth, Air and Spirit reagents can be of any level. So you can collect the lower levels of these reagents and use them throughout the process of creating level 5. It's also worth paying attention to the water. Water will be needed at every stage of the creation, so make sure you collect water frequently and in large amounts.

It is important to note that in some lower-level potions some higher-level resources can be used, so make sure to use the drop-down menus and select the correct ingredients for the level of the potion you are making. Save higher tier resources for higher tier potions.

TIP: There are several types of resources that overlap when crafting with the Arcana. This is especially important to remember to build higher-level arcana. For example, there are several different types of Spirit Reagent that can be used for level 4 and 5 potions, however there is only 1 option for a level 4 magic reagent when creating a level 4 mana potion which is Soul Flower. Therefore, do NOT use soul sprout flowers as a spirit reagent. Make sure you save them specifically for level 4 mana potions. Use other spirit reagent options instead.

Others to keep in mind are Soul Viper Language and Dragonfish Jaw. These 2 can be used both as level 5 magic reagents and spirit reagents.

It is a good rule of thumb to simply use lower-tier materials as reagents other than the level-specific reagent when required.

Also, make sure to collect plenty of earth, air and spirit reagents at every opportunity. This will save you some time in the later arcana levels as these reagents are used from level III to level V.

Level 0-1

In order to reach level 1 in the arcana, you need to earn 100 arcana experience points. To achieve this, you will need to craft 17 weak health or mana potions or a combination of them. 1 potion will give you 6 EXP for Crafting.

6xp X 17 potions = 102 Arcane experience points

You need to find a water source nearby and collect 17 water and either 17 briar buds, 17 hyssop or 17 cob rushes.

Hyssop comes from picking herbs, briar buds come from briar, and rush cobs come from rushes. You can find all the herb locations by using our interactive map, and bulrush and briar are very common near bodies of water. These materials are very common and very easy to find.

Make sure you collect everything you can in the beginning. You will need to increase your harvest to level 30 in later arcana levels to be able to start collecting essences as your main resource. If you are harvesting only herbs, it takes about 87 herbs harvested to reach the 30th harvest level. There are also no level requirements to harvest mushrooms, so you can get some of the materials you need before reaching level 30 in your harvest.

Level 1 - 50

To reach level 50 in Arkana, you will need a total of 11025 additional Arkana Experience (11125 - 100 Experience Points already earned). To achieve this, you will need to create a total of 460 potions.

11,025 / 24 XP for a potion = 459.38 or 460 potions in total.

You need to collect a total of 460 level 2 healing and magic reagents, as well as 460 water to create the potions necessary to reach level 50.

It is quite easy to collect the necessary materials, as most of them can be obtained from the mushroom. You can use our interactive map and filter by mushrooms and start collecting. The glowing mushroom cap can fall out of any mushroom harvested, so you can harvest any mushroom and still get the necessary materials.

However, Windsward or Brightwood are optimal options for harvesting the mushroom as Windsward has plenty of Fronded Petalcaps that drop Petalcaps that can be used as an earth reagent in level 3 health potions until the next level phase, and Brightwood has plenty of Slime Twistcaps which drop Twistcap Spirals, which can be used as air reagents in level 3 mana potions in the next leveling phase.

Don't worry about accumulating mushrooms excessively as many of the items you collect can be used in the later stages of leveling up. See the materials table above for the specific items needed for each level.

Once you have the necessary materials you will have to find either a level 2 arcane station or a level 2 camp and craft the necessary amount of potions to reach level 50.

Level 50-100

To reach level 100 you will need a total of 86,250 additional arcana crafting experience. This means that to reach level 100 you will have to create a total of 959 potions.

86,250 / 90 XP for a potion = 958.33 or 959 potions in total.

You will need to collect a total of 959 level 3 healing / magic reagents, a total of 959 earth / air reagents and 959 water.

Some ingredients can be obtained by fishing for reagents, but for the sake of this guide we will stick to collecting. Just remember that if you were fishing before leveling the arcana some of the materials you obtained may be used here. You can refer to the material table above for the specific items you need.

The required reagents can be collected from LifebloomsLifejewelssoulsproutssoulspires and any mushroom can drop Mushroom Fins which is one of the level 3 magic reagents.

Due to the materials needed, the best places to harvest will be Windsward, Everfall and Monarch's Bluff. All three of these territories contain loads of essences that you will need to obtain both healing and magic reagents, as well as terrestrial and aerial reagents. You can also continue picking mushrooms like

If you took the clue from the previous leveling section regarding the type of mushroom you want to harvest, you should already have quite a bit of soil and air reagents already collected at this point.

Once you have the necessary materials you will have to find either a level 3 arcane station or a level 3 camp and craft the necessary amount of potions to reach level 100.

Level 100-150

To reach level 150 you will need a total of 404,550 additional arcana crafting experience. This means that to reach level 150 you will have to create a total of 1,349 potions.

404550 / 300xp for a potion = 1,348.5 or 1,349 potions in total.

You will need to collect a total of 1,349 level 4 healing / magic reagents, a total of 1,349 earth / air reagents, 1,349 spirit reagents and 959 water.

Once you reach this leveling phase, things get a little more difficult as you now only have 1 option for level 4 healing reagent and 1 option for level 4 magic reagent. They are the flower of life and the flower of the sprouts of the soul.

Lifebloom Flowers are obtained by collecting Lifebloom, and Soulsprout Flowers are obtained by collecting SoulSprout. You can use our interactive map and filter on both of these essences to see the locations where they can be found.

Both of the materials you need are rare drops, so you won't be able to collect Soul Sprouts or Life Bloom and have a guaranteed drop. It will take some time to collect them all. The best way to act to get them (if you're collecting everything yourself and not buying them) is to run the collecting route from the northwest of Everfall down to Windsward, then the light first, then back through the east of the First Head to Monarch's Bluff then up the eastern Everfall. (You can of course have your own route if you want)

The other ingredients needed are earth, air, spirit chemicals, and water. At this point in your journey you should have an excess of them, but if not, you'll have to go back and collect the necessary items.

Once you get the materials, you'll need to find a level IV camp or a level IV arcana station and craft the required number of potions to reach level 150.

Level 150-200

To reach level 200, you will need a total of 1,379,500 additional arcana crafting experience. This means that to reach level 200, you will have to produce a total of 2,225 potions.

1,379,500 / 620 XP for a potion = 2,225 potions in total.

You will need to collect a total of 2,225 level 5 healing / magic reagents, a total of 2,225 earth / air reagents, 2,225 spirit reagents and 2,225 water.

The easiest way to get the required level 5 materials is to collect Azoth Water from Azoth Springs. Reekwater is littered with Azoth Springs, so this will be the best way to get the necessary tier 5 materials to craft tier 5 potions. Mercury's water is only used in health potions. However, you can also collect the tongue and eyes of the Reekwater moths by collecting the moths and life moths found in the area.

Remember that Reekwater is an end game zone. If you reach this point on your crafting journey and you're not level enough to enter the zone, you may need to recruit help from a friend or buy resources in the marketplace. Azoth Springs, lifemoths, and soulwyrms can be found in some lower-tier zones, but in much lower densities, so it will take some time to gather all the necessary materials.

The other ingredients needed are earth, air, spirit chemicals, and water. At this point in your journey you should have an excess of them, but if not, you'll have to go back and collect the necessary items.

Once you get the materials, you'll need to find a Tier V camp or a Tier V arcana station and craft the required number of potions to reach level 200.

Items that will improve your arcana

There are some items in the New World that will help you get bonuses while using the arcana profession. The Arcana and Luck bonuses will give you a% chance to get additional items while crafting, and the Arcana Expertise perk will give you a minimum and maximum increase in your equip score for crafted items.

There are 2 different armor sets available in the new world, each equipped with the Arcana Knowledge perk. These kits are the arcanist kit and the concoctor kit.

Kits can be obtained from Elite Ancient Chests, and you can find more information about them in our database.
