Introduction to mining in the New World

Mining is a gathering trading skill in the New World that allows players to collect raw gems, ores, and precious metals from mining hubs that will be used to build trading skills; Armoring, engineering, arcane, cooking and furnishing. It will also be used in the Melting and Stonework Refinement Skills.

The first time you run it, you will need a flint pickaxe to start mining nodes. This requires an Engineering level of 0 and 1 Flint and 1 Green Wood to produce it. You can pick up both Flint and Greenwood without having to use a harvesting tool by going to the appropriate bush / flint and pressing the interaction key. (Default "E) After capturing a level 1 campfire or workshop, you must craft a flint mining pickaxe. Once crafted, you'll need to equip it and you can start harvesting!

Higher character levels are able to use better levels of mining pickaxes:

It is recommended that you use the highest possible level followed by the best possible equipment score to best increase your collection rate.

Note that the minimum level of tools required requires an experienced craftsman and one who has not surpassed low-level tool making skills. A craftsman's minimum equipment score will increase with level. For more information, see the Crafts Engineering Guide (coming soon.

Where to find mining hubs

There are no zone restrictions like harvesting, so you can find anything without worrying about ending up in the wrong zone.

The best farm path is the one you create with the interactive map as each server will differ in the load on these nodes. You can also tune in on Thursday from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. PT on the New World Trade Skill Show and ask in chat about possible routes. I am always happy to share my personal itineraries with my viewers.

How to level up mining

The information in this section will help you improve your mining skills. I will not provide the "optimal paths" because if everyone started using them, it would no longer be the optimal path, would it?

The general rule of thumb is to try to mine the top-level nodes that you have access to. To reach level 200, you need a total of 435 280 experience points.

Level 1 to 50:

To reach level 50 you need a total of 13,873 experience. The best way to get 50 points is to mine iron and silver. You will need to mine ~ 85 silver / iron knots. The average for Iron / Silver knots is 6.7XP / second.

Level 50 to 100:

To reach level 100 you need a total of 76,551 experience, or 62,678 more experience from level 50. The strategy is basically the same, however you start mixing alchemy stones in your gatherer rotation. You'll need to mine ~ 375-400 Silver / Iron / Alchemy knots. The average for Alchemy Stones is 7.9XP / second.

Level 100 to 150:

To reach level 150, you need a total of 217,509 experience, or 154,831 more experience from level 100. You now have access to Starmet, but the base experience rate is 4.3XP / second. A 550% increase in harvest rate means 77.5% faster harvest rate, which changes Star Metal to ~ 19 XP / second; however, it also increases Iron / Silver to 30XP / second.

Without changing the 50v100 leveling method. Stay on the Iron / Silver course if you are trying to raise your level. You'll need to mine ~ 925-980 silver / iron / alchemy knots.

Level 150 to 200:

To reach level 200 you need a total of 435,280 experience, which is 217,771 more experience from level 150. So level 150 is basically halfway to level 200! At this point, the best way to reach 200 is collecting Orichalcum, as they provide a base average of ~ 9.2 XP / second and 41 XP / second at 550% gathering speed. You'll have to dig ~

210 Orichalcum knots.

Extra help:

There is an experience perk you will want to find on your pickaxe called Seeker Discipline. This perk increases your mining experience 3-9.4% based on the value of the mining pickaxe equipment. The profit is limited to the mining pickaxe only. Having this perk is a must if you are trying to increase the mining level, but at the level of 200 it is useless.

The strength of 300 points is perfect for leveling. See the Upgrading Mining section for more information on the bonuses it gives.

TRAP: There are some things in the game that may seem helpful in leveling up, but won't help. The Territory XP gain bonus is one of those things. This buff does not apply to trading skills. Luck does not affect your experience level. Finding unusual, rare or legendary items while collecting does not change the amount of experience gained. Efficiency equals happiness. Obtaining more items does not increase the amount of experience gained.

Below is a graph showing the mining nodes, their size, the time it takes to collect them in seconds, experience, and the ratio of experience to time.

Node type | Size | Time | XP | Rates ----------------------------------------------- Boulder type 1 | Small | 15 | 53 | 3.5 Boulder type 1 | Medium | 25 | 79 | 3.2 Type 1 boulder | Large | 35 | 105 | 3.0 Boulder Type 2 | Small | 8 | 53 | 6.6 Type 2 boulder | Medium | 14 | 79 | 5.6 Type 2 boulder | Large | 20 | 105 | 5.3 Iron vein | Small | 15 | 105 | 7.0 Iron Vein | Medium | 25 | 158 | 6.3 Iron vein | Large | 35 | 237 | 6.8 Silver Vein | Small | 15 | 105 | 7.0 Silver Vein | Medium | 25 | 158 | 6.3 Silver Vein | Large | 35 | 237 | 6.8 Soaked Stone | Small | 35 | 105 | 3.0 Leaking Stone | Medium | 45 | 158 | 3.5 Soaked Stone | Large | 70 | 237 | 3.4 Golden Vein | Small | 70 | 158 | 2.3 Golden Vein | Medium | 95 | 237 | 2.5 Golden Vein | Large | 120 | 355 | 3.0 Alchemy Stones | | 20 | 158 | 7.9 Vein of Star Metal | Small | 70 | 263 | 3.8 Vein of Star Metal | Medium | 95 | 394 | 4.1 Vein of Star Metal | Large | 120 | 591 | 4.9 Tundra elemental | | 15 | 158 | 10.5 Lodestone | Small | 45 | 105 | 2.3 Lodestone | Medium | 70 | 158 | 2.3 Lodestone | Large | 95 | 237 | 2.5 Mountain elemental | | 70 | 237 | 3.4 Platinum vein | Small | 85 | 263 | 3.1 Platinum vein | Medium | 110 | 394 | 3.6 Platinum vein | Large | 135 | 591 | 4.4 Vein of Orichalcum | Small | 85 | 657 | 7.7 Vein of Orichalcum | Medium | 110 | 984 | 8.9 Vein of Orichalcum | Large | 135 | 1476 | 10.9 Orichalcum Spire | | 85 | 263 | 3.1

Strengthening the mining industry

Boosts and Perks are the two main ways to improve your mining. They both have ways of arranging them, but with all the good things, there are limitations.

Feats are limited to an item type and can only have 1 per item type. For example, the amulet cannot have Enhanced Mining Luck because it is an Armor perk, but it can have 1 instance of Glorified Mining Luck because it is an Amulet perk. There are always exceptions to the rules; sometimes a quest item will give a named item that has a double perk, however currently none of them exist for the mining industry that we know about at the moment.

Bonuses can be cumulative if they come from different sources. For example, I can stack a performance boost from a Potion of Proficiency and Territory Control. If you try to combine buffs from the same source it will refresh your gain timer.

There is a miner armor set that is perfect for players to use while digging as it should always be equipped with strength and enhanced mining luck. Players encounter these items around level 19+ monsters as Rare Supply and Drop Chests. This set is only configured for levels 3/4/5, therefore players will not encounter them in the early game.

Side note: Miner hat (T3 / T4) | Miner Goggles (T5) - Another name for the Tier 5 version.

Each perk has an associated crafting mod that can be used in crafting to guarantee a crafting perk and has been listed as part of the perk, meaning you may want some armor crafted with that perk.

Bringing out happiness and you

The first thing I need to clarify is that 1000 happiness points equals 1% luck in mining. The same can be said in a different way; 1% of Mining Happiness equals 1000 happiness points. This conversion works with Mining as all used loot tables are 100,000 loot tables. In other cases, the 100k loot table cannot be used, making this conversion invalid.

With this conversion in mind, the BiS Mining Luck turns out to be a fully boosted 52.3% or 52,300 Mining Luck points.

The reason Luck is important to mining is because it will increase your chances of getting a rare mining item and increase the number of items you collect. There are several thresholds that must be reached in order to receive rare items. These thresholds can only be achieved with the Mining level, but can be achieved sooner by using resources that have been talked about not too long ago.

Thresholds:

  • +1000 points / 1.00% Collect level 2 and 3 rare minerals.
  • +1450 points / 1.45% Collect level 4 rare minerals.
  • +1800 points / 1.80% Collect level 5 rare minerals.

It's important to note that while these are the thresholds to start seeing these items, it doesn't mean your chances of seeing them are very high. At level 200 without luck your chance of getting Tolvium is ~ 0.2%, but when you fully buff BiS your chance is ~ 33% from Orichalcum Knots.

There is only 1 loot table to mine where you can get 99 extra Orichalcum ore and it comes from Orichalcum Spire with a score of 100,100 or higher.

The basic division of the Mining Experience table.
