Heron field notes
Heron's Field Notes is a piece of knowledge about the New World that tells the story of a scientist in Aeternum trying to uncover the secrets of the Ancient Guardians. The knowledge pages describe many encounters with the Ancient Guardians and discuss the types of weapons and attacks they use. The Heron also hints at how the Ancient Obelisks were constructed or potentially made by the Ancients, and refers to the directional position of the spheres on top of the obelisks that face the Shattered Obelisk.

Thanks to Heron's Field Notes we also discover some very interesting information about the actual location of Aeternum on Earth and that Aeternum is in fact the primal paradise from which all life arose. So were the Ancients the first to ever inhabit the earth, and are the Ancient Guardians simply peons who keep much greater secrets of the Ancients?

REAL ancients of the New World?
The skeletons roaming the realm of Aeternum are said to be the Ancient Keepers, but are these Ancient Keepers really the Ancients? The knowledge pages titled The Vega Bridge & Covenant's Quest shed some light on this topic. The Ancient Guardians are said to be heretics and traitors to their own humanity, worshiping beings like the Ancients, and now they are eternally trapped in skeleton form, cursed to guard the Ancient Ruins forever.

So the question is, who are the Ancients if they are not the Ancient Keepers? The story pages also state that the statues around ruins such as Arcturus and others indicate that the Ancients had four arms and a cleaved face that those skeletons that guard the ruins do not have.
